Adelphi Falls To New Haven, 80-62

West Haven, CT - New Haven poured in 42 points in the second half, including converting on 15 of 18 attempts from the free throw line, while Adelphi scored 28 points and fell to New Haven, 80-62. With the loss Adelphi drops to 14-8 overall and 13-6 in the conference, while New Haven improves to 15-7 overall and 15-4 in NYCAC play.

Adelphi jumped out to an early 9-5 lead on a three-pointer by Kerri Kirschbaum (Leonardo, N.J.). But New Haven took control, going on a quick 6-0 run to take an 11-9 advantage on a jumper by Jill Angotta (Willimantic, CT). The Chargers pushed their lead to as much as 12, 32-20, with 7:56 to play. But the Panthers clawed their way back into the game, outscoring New Haven 14-6 the rest of the way, including a running jumper as time expired by Kirschbaum to bring Adelphi to within four, 38-34, going into the locker room.

New Haven again stretched their lead to double digits in the opening minutes of the second half only to see the Panthers battle back. Adelphi cut the Chargers lead to three, 48-45 on a jumper by Jamie Douglas (Hopatcong, N.J.) with 15:41 to play. But that was as close as Adelphi would get the rest of the way.

The Panthers were within 12 points with 1:31 to play but New Haven hit 9-10 free throw attempts in the last 1:30 to secure an 80-62 win.

Adelphi was led by Melanie Mangone (Middle Village, N.Y.), who scored 13 points. Carlyshia Hurdle (Brentwood, N.Y.) was the only other Panther in double figures with 11 points.

Adelina Gentry (Lansdale, P.A.) led all scorers with a game-high 20 points and seven rebounds. Ashley Hilton (Skowhegan, M.E.) chipped in 18 points for New Haven.

Adelphi returns to action Tuesday, February 17th when they play host to visiting Philadelphia at 5:30 pm in Woodruff Hall.
