Adelphi Tripped Up By New Haven, 80-67

West Haven, CT - Adelphi was held to just 23 points in the second half as New Haven exploded for 46 points on 58 percent shooting to top the Panthers 80-67. With the loss Adelphi falls to 12-10 overall and 10-9 in the conference, while New Haven improves to 16-6 overall and 13-6 in NYCAC play.

The Panthers jumped out to an 8-3 lead just 2:55 into play, as Jamaal Wagner (Jamaica, N.Y.) scored six of his 12 points in the first three minutes of action. Adelphi did not let up, increasing their lead to as many as 14 points, 34-20 with just 5:26 left in the first half. New Haven got nine points from Ismael Caro (Hartford, C.T.) in the last three minutes to cut the Panthers edge to 10, 44-34 going into the half.

Caro came out of the locker room hot and scored nine points in the first five minutes of the second half to pull the Chargers within three, 50-47 on with a three-pointer. Caro then gave New Haven the lead for good on two made free throws. Adelphi was down as many as 12, but crept back to within single digits before falling to New Haven, 80-67.

The Panthers were led by freshman Mike Mosby (Lake Ronkonkoma, N.Y.), who scored a career-high 17 points and grabbed eight rebounds. Wagner was the only other Panther in double figures, collecting 12 points, 11 of which came in the first half.

Caro scored a game-high 36 points for New Haven, including converting 16 of 20 attempts from the free throw line. John Sullivan (Bridgeport, C.T.) was the only other New Haven player in double figures, scoring 11 points and grabbing 11 rebounds.

Adelphi returns to action Tuesday, February 17th when they play host to visiting Philadelphia at 7:30 pm in Woodruff hall.
