Adelphi senior James Samuels (Uniondale, N.Y.) had a break-out game and the Panthers forced 13 turnovers by the Pioneers while committing just three in the second half on their way to a 75-56 win over conference rival C.W. Post. With the win Adelphi extends their win streak to four games (4-2) and remain perfect in the NYCAC at 3-0, while the Pioneers fall to an even 2-2 overall and 2-1 in the conference.
The Panthers came out of the gate hot, scoring the first eight points of the game. But the Pioneers responded with a 7-0 run to pull within one, 8-7 with 15:19 to play. C.W. Post took a brief lead on an Adelphi pushed the lead to as much as nine points in the first half and entered the locker room with a 29-23 advantage thanks to Samuels 16 first half points on 7-9 shooting.
C.W. Post opened the second half with a 15-2 run which featured nine points by Justin Cole (Westbury, N.Y.). But the Panthers responded by holding the Pioneers to just 18 points over the final 16:37 of the game, while pouring in 30 points of their own to claim a 75-56 victory.
Cole led the Pioneers with 22 points, teammate Neville Storer (Yonkers, N.Y.) pitched in 12 points and grabbed seven rebounds. Steve DeChabert also had a strong game for C.W. Post, grabbing nine rebounds, scoring eight points and handing out three assists.
Samuels poured in a game-high 31 points, becoming the first Panther to reach the 30 point mark since Wayne Nelson scored 32 against Molloy on February 20, 2002. Samuels also chipped in six rebounds.
Aaron Cummings (Bay Shore, N.Y.) and Kimani Blaize (Brooklyn, N.Y.) continued their strong play. Cummings scored a career-high 14 points and handed out six assists and grabbed five rounds, while Blaize also scored 14 points and added five rebounds.
The Panthers return to action on Wednesday, November 8th when they travel to West Haven, Connecticut to take on NYCAC foe New Haven at 7:00 pm.
