Adelphi placed three players in double figures and held Dowling to just 31 percent shooting in the second half to squeeze out a 64-56 win. With the win Adelphi improves to 3-2 overall and remains unbeaten in NYCAC play at 2-0, while Dowling falls to 1-2 overall and 1-1 in the conference.
The game started off slow with both teams struggling to find their offense, combining for just 20 points in the first ten minutes of action. But both teams heated up as Dowling too a three-point lead on a Keith Willis (Brooklyn, N.Y.) three-pointer with 8:44 to play.
The Panthers battled back and closed the half with a 9-5 run to head into the locker room with a 28-25 lead. Samuel Jenkins (Brooklyn, N.Y.) started the run with a three-pointer and led all scorers at the half with 10 points.
Adelphi opened the second half by holding the Golden Lions to just four points in the first eight minutes of action, which allowed the Panthers to jump out to a nine point advantage, 38-29. Dowling would cut Adelphi's lead to three on two separate occasions, the last coming with just 2:30 left to play, but junior Eric Martin (Laurelton, N.Y.) hit a jumper to push the lead back to five.
Willis led Dowling with 16 points, while teammate Michael Session (Brentwood, N.Y.) chipped in 10 points and seven rebounds. Wesley Boone (Bronx, N.Y.) was the only other player in double figures for the Golden Lions, scoring 11 points.
Sophomore Kimani Blaize (Brooklyn, N.Y.) led the way for Adelphi, scoring 16 points and grabbing a game-high eight rebounds. Martin and Jenkins also scored in double figures for Adelphi, chipping in 12 points apiece.
The Panthers return to action on Saturday, December 3rd when they play host to visiting conference rival C.W. Post at 3:00 pm in Woodruff Hall.
