Nov. 6, 2004

Box Score

Bridgeport, CT - The University of Bridgeport, seeded fourth in the NYCAC Tournament, defeated fifth-seeded Adelphi by a 3-1 final to advance to the NYCAC Semifinals. UB won the first two games before dropping the third, but hung on to win in four.

After UB captured the first two games with relative ease, the Panthers showed that they weren't going away without a fight and pulled out the third game, 30-26. With the score at 22-15 in the third game in favor of UB, UB senior Jessica Herrman was rattled after diving for a ball and crashing into the bleachers. She managed to recover though and came up with kill to win the point before going to the bench. Herrman returned, but UB lost the game.

Both teams played well through the halfway point of the fourth game, with no one holding more than a one-point lead until UB went up 20-18. The Purple Knights would never trail again and went on to win the game by a 30-24 final.

Leading Bridgeport was Herrman with 21 kills, followed closely by Jessi Bornack with 18 kills, 29 digs and three service aces in one of her best matches of the season.

Adelphi was led by junior Meaghan Joyce with 13 kills, followed closely by freshman Lauren Flanagan with 11 kills. Senior Sharon Ribera had a remarkable 31 digs for the Panthers, while sophomore Rachael Cornick had 19 in a good defensive effort.
