Men's Soccer Falls To Host FIU, 2-0

Nov. 5, 2004

Box Score

Miami, Florida - The Adelphi University men's soccer team had a two-game winning streak snapped by 23rd ranked Florida International (FIU). The Panthers were out shot in the 2-0 loss to conference foe FIU. The Golden Panthers improve to 9-5-0 overall and remain atop the league standings at 4-0-0, while Adelphi falls to 5-8-1 overall and 0-3-1 in the ASC.

FIU came out fast with senior Bobby Boswell (Tampa, Fla./Plant) recording his first goal of the season just 32 seconds into the match on a cross from senior Oscar Gil (Riviera Beach, Fla./Lynn) to put the Golden Panthers up 1-0.

FIU continued to control the ball throughout the first half and constantly threatened to score. In the 12th minute, senior Fernando Plentz (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) took a pass at midfield and dribbled down the field, beating several defenders, to put himself in a one-on-one with Adelphi junior goalkeeper Michael Hurley (Freeport, N.Y.). Hurley managed to deflect Plentz' shot at the top of the net to record one of his 10 saves of the match.

FIU continued to press, recording nine shots -- with several barely missing their mark -- before Adelphi managed its lone shot of the first half, an attempt by senior Tal Sheinfeld (Even Yehoda, Israel) 25 minutes into the match.

In the 26th minute, junior Carron Williams (Santa Cruz, Trinidad) took a pass from junior Lucas Scudeler (Sao Paolo, Brazil) to score his fifth goal of the season from a few yards out.

For the game the Golden Panthers outshot Adelphi, 27 to six, including 13 shots on goal, but managed just five shots in the second period -- and no shots in the last 9:31 with Adelphi playing a man down.

FIU sophomore goalkeeper Shawn Crowe (Aurora, Colo./Regis Jesuit) finished the match with one save, while Hurley picked up 10 saves for the Panthers.

Adelphi returns to action on November 7th when they travel to Boca Raton, Florida to take on Florida Atlantic University in a non-conference match-up.
