The Adelphi men's basketball team traveled to Dobbs Ferry, New York on November 23rd to open their New York Collegiate Athletic Conference (NYCAC) schedule against host Mercy College. The Panthers evened their record at 2-2 overall and sit at 1-0 in the conference, while Mercy remains winless at 0-3 overall and 0-1 in the NYCAC.
Junior Eric Martin (Laurelton, N.Y.) continued his strong play scoring a game-high 15 points and grabbing a game-high eight rebounds. Jamaal Wagner (Jamaica, N.Y.) and Kimani Blaize (Brooklyn, N.Y.) also scored in double-figures for Adelphi. Wagner poured in 11, including three from beyond the arc and Blaize chipped in 10 points. Aaron Cummings (Bay Shore, N.Y.) also played well, scoring eight points, pulling down six rebounds and handing out a career-high eight assists.
Chanze Wellington led Mercy with a team-high nine points and chipped in five rebounds. Nick Mascino contributed eight points and three boards for the Flyers.
The Panthers entered the locker room with a comfortable 28-23 lead after shooting 40 percent in the first half, including hitting five three-pointers. In the second half Mercy made it close, knotting the game at 44 late in the game, but Adelphi snapped the tie and pulled to pull out a 60-52 win.
Adelphi returns to action on Wednesday, December 1st when they play host to visiting Dowling College at 5:30 pm in Woodruff Hall.
