The Adelphi University women's basketball team extended its win streak to three, defeating Mercy College 87-60 in Tuesday night conference action. The Panthers improve to 3-0 on the season and 2-0 in the NYCAC. The Lady Flyers drop to 0-2 and 0-1 in the NYCAC.
At 3-0, the Panthers are off to their best season start since the 2001-02 season when the squad went on to a 28-3 record and a NCAA Sweet Sixteen appearance.
Junior Carlyshia Hurdle (Brentwood, N.Y.) registered her third double-double of the season, tying her career-best of 26 points along with 15 rebounds. Senior Melanie Mangone (Middle Village, N.Y.) also had a solid night, collected 17 points along with five steals. Senior Meranne Whitney (Nashua, N.H.) was the only other Panther in double figures with 10 points.
Adelphi held a comfortable 48-31 lead at the end of the first half and never looked back. On the night, the Panthers were 43.1 percent from the field and 71.9 percent from the free-throw line.
The Lady Flyers were led by Teresa Rozza with 23 points. Markeisha Wigent had 17 points and 14 rebounds.
The Panthers return to action on Wednesday, December 1, hosting Dowling College at 7:30 pm in Woodruff Hall.
