Box Score
Waltham, Mass. -
Four different players scored in double-figures, including three with a dozen, as Adelphi University held on to edge Bentley College, 71-68, in the Holiday Inn Express Tip-Off Classic Saturday night at the Dana Center.
Junior forward Eric Martin (Laurelton, N.Y.), sophomore guard Kimani Blaize (Brooklyn, N.Y.) and sophomore forward Mike Mosby (Lake Ronkonkoma, N.Y.) each finished with 12, helping Adelphi (1-2) grab its first win of the season and snapping the Falcons' three-game winning streak.
Poor starts to both halves proved to be costly to the Falcons, who received a game-high 19 points from junior guard Tim Forbes (Attleboro/Attleboro HS). Bentley (3-2) failed to score on its first six possessions of the first half, enabling the Panthers to score the first eight points and open a ten-point lead four minutes into the contest.
After recovering from that hole to take a 38-35 lead into intermission, Bentley managed only three points in the first six minutes of the second half and fell behind by eight, 49-41.
A three-pointer by sophomore guard Samuel Jenkins (Brooklyn, N.Y.) extended the lead to 12, 58-46, at the midpoint of the second half. Bentley ran off 11 straight points, including four points from sophomore forward Jeff Holmes (Westbrook, Maine/Cheverus HS), to get within one, 58-57 with 5:38 left, but could never completely erase the lead. Including that time, the Falcons came within two points three times, and each time Adelphi was able to restore the advantage to at least five.
Adelphi shot 52 percent for the game, with Martin a perfect 6-for-6, and enjoyed a 42-24 advantage in points in the paint. They were also able to convert 17 Bentley turnovers into 20 points.
The Panthers return to action on Tuesday, November 23rd when they travel to Dobbs Ferry, New York to open up their conference schedule against Mercy College at 7:30 pm.
