The Adelphi University women's soccer team defeated Concordia College, 10-0, in their regular season finale this afternoon at Stiles Field. The Panthers improve to 15-3 and 9-2 in the NYCAC while the Clippers finish the season 0-11.
The Panthers jumped to a 9-0 lead in the first half. Sophomore Lauren Bowman led all Adelphi scorers with three goals. Junior Shannon McEntee had two goals.
Sophomore Catherine Wyndham opened the scoring in the second minute with an unassisted goal. McEntee scored both her goals in the 8th minute, just 30 seconds apart. Senior Dina Cali notched her second goal of the season in the ninth minute of play. Sophomore Lauren Lopez made it a 5-0 game just 30 second later on an assist from Denise Auer. Bowman notched the next three goals before freshman Jacki Walsh closed the half on an assist by junior Jessica Marra.
The Panthers held a 21-0 shot advantage, but only took two shots in the second half. Freshman Kristin Waldman scored the lone goal of the half on an cross from senior Jaime Parrella in the 57th minute.
Adelphi finishes the NYCAC regular season in second place. Southampton College holds on to the top spot with a 10-0-1 conference record. This marks the first time in four years the Panthers have not captured the regular season crown.
The Panthers are back in action on Friday, November 5, hosting the first ever NYCAC Women's Soccer Tournament. While final rankings have not been released, Adelphi will most likely face No.3 New Haven in the first game at 11 am with No.1 Southampton to play either Queens or Bridgeport at 2 pm. The finals will take place on Sunday, November 7, at 1 pm.
Tickets for the NYCAC Tournament are $5 for adults and $2 for students.
