Lehigh's Adam Williamson (Petersburg, NJ) slipped the game winner past Adelphi's Rich Skoblicki (Patchogue, N.Y.) in the 81st minute to lift the Mountain Hawks to a 1-0 win. With the loss Adelphi falls to 3-5 overall, while Lehigh improves to 6-3-1 on the year.
The first half was a back and forth affair with Adelphi and Lehigh exchanging scoring opportunities. Suleyman Pehlivan (Istanbul, Turkey) had the Panthers best chance in the first half, moving to his left Pehlivan sent the ball toward the right post but it sailed just high.
The second half was similar to the first half with both teams having several scoring chances but unable to capitalize. Until the 81st minute when Lehigh sent a ball into the Adelphi box. There was some contact as a Panther defender and a Lehigh forward challenged for the ball. Both players fell and the ball moved toward the left corner where Joe Clemente (South Brunswick, NJ) collected the ball and sent it to Williamson. Williamson collected the ball and slotted it into the left side of the Panther net.
Adelphi would mount several good rushes at the Mountain Hawk goal but came up empty handed, eventually falling 1-0. Skoblicki kept Adelphi in the game making five saves; Charlie Sales (Chatham, IL) collected two saves for Lehigh.
Adelphi returns to action on Saturday, October 9th when they open their Atlantic Soccer Conference schedule against Howard University. Kick-off is set for noon on Stiles Field.
