Volleyball Holds Off Pace, 3-1

Garden City, N.Y. - The Adelphi University volleyball defeated Pace University 30-18, 26-30,30-24,30-23 in a Thursday night non-conference match up at Woodruff Hall. The Panthers extend their win streak to four straight as they improve to 17-12. Pace falls to 5-13.

Freshman Christina Vandling led the Panthers with 16 kills. Sophomores Rachael Cornick and Brittany Addeo along with senior Sharon Ribera each contributed 12 digs. Freshman Kathleen Creegan tallied a career-high 11 kills.

The Panthers dominated in game one, hitting 40.6 percent compared with just.056 percent for the Setters to cruise to a quick 30-18 win.

In game two, Pace fought back, led by junior Maja Iljic who accounted for 27 of the teams 48 total kills in the match. Adelphi struggled with just 10 kills on 37 attempts with seven errors. The Setters captured the second game, 30-26.

Game three remained close with Pace taking a two-point advantage midway through. The Panthers rallied back helped by the strong hitting of Vandling and Creegan to take the game, 30-24.

Adelphi's hitting continued to improve in game four. The Setters were unable to find their rhythm as the Panthers pulled ahead to win the game and the match, 30-23.

The Panthers have now won their fourth straight match and with a 17-12 record are on track to post the best winning percentage in school history. They are also just one win away from tying the school record for most wins (18) set back in 2001.

Adelphi returns to conference action this Saturday, October 30, as they travel to Rockeville Centre to face Molloy College at 11 am.
