Adelphi sophomore Dieudonne Nonga (Jamaica, N.Y.) scored in the 63rd minute to lift the Panthers to a 2-1 win over host Columbia. The win snaps Adelphi's four-game winless streak and raises the Panthers record to 4-7-1 overall, while Columbia falls to 2-10-2.
The Panthers opened the scoring in the in the 29th minute when Tal Sheinfeld (Even Yehoda, Israel) collected a pass from freshman Rob Philippou (Manhasset, N.Y.) and slipped the ball around Columbia's goalie.
Columbia struck back just before the half. In the 41st minute of play Tom Davison (Brandon, FL) struck a ball that beat Adelphi goalkeeper Michael Hurley (Freeport, N.Y.), evening the game at one. Mark Dryszka (Hayworth, NJ) and Tyler Birch (Rancho Santa Fe, FL) were both credited with assists on the goal.
Adelphi then closed out the scoring in the 63rd when Nonga scored what would prove to be the game winner. Sheinfeld sent a corner kick into Columbia's box where the ball deflected off of Nonga and into the Lion goal, giving the Panthers a 2-1 lead and the win.
Hurley collected eight saves in the win, while Michael Testa (Manhasset Hills, N.Y.) and Dean Arnaoutakis (Dunedin, FL) combined for three saves.
The Panthers return to action on Saturday, November 30th when they travel to Newark, New Jersey to face-off with NJIT at 6:30 pm.
