Freshman Christina Vandling had 16 kills and combined for seven blocks to lead Adelphi University to a 3-2 win over the University of New Haven on Tuesday night. The win clinches a spot for the Panthers in the NYCAC Tournament.
The Panthers improve to 16-12 on the season and 5-4 in the NYCAC, while the Chargers fall to 8-14 and 3-5 in the NYCAC.
Sophomore Rachael Cornick also added 16 kills and 20 digs in the win. Junior Jessica Haynes chipped in 12 kills and 15 digs for her third double-double of the season.
Adelphi topped UNH 25-30, 30-19, 31-33, 30-24, 15-12 in a hard fought match. This was a crucial win for Adelphi which could enter the conference tournament with their highest ranking in program history. Adelphi was also ranked eighth in the latest NCAA Northeast Regional polls.
The Panthers return to non-conference action on Thursday, October 28, hosting Pace University at 7 pm.
