Adelphi took the lead in the 24th minute but Hartwick's Edwin Ruiz (Miami, FL) answered with two quick goals to sink the Panthers 3-1. With the loss Adelphi falls to 3-7-1 on the season and 0-2-1 in Atlantic Soccer Conference play, while Hartwick improves to 9-2-3 overall and remains unbeaten in the conference at 2-0.
The Panthers struck in the 24th minute of play when Steven Heisler (Deer Park, N.Y.) settled an attempted Hawk clear and ripped a shot that beat Josh Wagenaar (Ontario, Canada) to a give Adelphi a 1-0 edge.
Less then a minute later Hartwick answered as Ruiz found the back of the net for the first of his two goals. Kenny Rodriguez (Lilburn, GA) found Ruiz in the Panther box and Ruiz sent the ball past a diving Michael Hurley (Freeport, N.Y.) to even the game at one.
Ruiz struck again in the 32nd minute; this time Justin Brandt (Miami, FL) slipped a through ball to Ruiz who easily beat Hurley for his second goal of the game. Hartwick entered halftime up 2-1.
The Panthers were forced to play the last 28 minutes of action a man down due to an infraction. Hartwick took advantage in the 79th minute. Chris Sardon (Sacramento, Calif.) dribbled past two Adelphi defenders and found himself one-on-one with Hurley. Sardon was then able to slip the ball past Hurley and into the Panther net, giving Hartwick a 3-1 win.
Hurley made five saves for Adelphi, while Wagenaar collected two saves for the Hawks.
Adelphi returns to action on Wednesday, October 27th when they travel to Columbia for a 4:00 pm kick-off.
