Panthers Finish Seventh At AIC Stinger Classic

Springfield, Mass. - The Adelphi University volleyball team finished seventh with a 2-1 record at the American International Stinger Classic this weekend in Springfield, Mass. The Panthers are now 15-12 on the season.

On Friday, the Panthers fell in three sets to Mercy College (14-10) 29-31, 26-30, 18-30. Freshman Lauren Flanagan had seven kills for Adelphi.

Adelphi rallied back on day two, sweeping both of its matches. In the first contest, the Panthers topped Stonehill College (10-11) 30-24, 30-21, 30-26. Sophomore Racheal Cornick, named to the all-tournament team, tallied 15 kills. Sophomore Brittany Addeo collected 33 assits.

In the second match, Adelphi shut out host AIC (3-21) 30-25, 30-16, 30-19. Cornick had 12 kills and 12 digs to lead the Panthers. Addeo added 31 assists.

A total of 11 teams participated in the two-day tournament with Dowling College coming out on top with a 4-0 record. Sophomore Marta Slodnik was named tournament MVP.
