Garden City, N.Y. -
Adelphi University sophomore Lea Brady (Holbrook, N.Y.) registered a career-high four goals in the Panthers 5-0 win over NYIT on Wednesday afternoon at Stiles Field. Adelphi improves to 11-3 overall and 7-2 in the NYCAC, while the Lady Bears drop to 8-7 on the season and 5-3 in league play.
Junior Shannon McEntee (Valley Stream, N.Y.) put the Panthers on board in the 15th minute of play on a cross from sophomore Denise Auer (Holbrook, N.Y.). Auer picked up her second assist of the day in the 23rd minute on a cross to Brady which deflected off of a NYIT defender and into the net. The Panthers held a 2-0 advantage at the half.
The Brady show continued in the second half as she scored all of Adelphi's three remaining goals. Her second goal of the day came unassisted in the 58th minute as she beat out a NYIT defender and slotted the ball into the lower left corner. Sophomore Lauren Bowman (Cheshire, Conn.) provided help on Brady's next point at 63:32 as she booted the ball over the NYIT goalie and into the right side of the net. Brady's final goal came at 75:13 as the Panthers coasted to a 5-0 victory.
Freshman Christine Conway (Rockville Centre, N.Y.) had four stops in 75:23 minutes in goal. Senior Heather Munzer (Wantagh, N.Y.) closed out the final 14:37 minutes.
Brady's four goals are just shy of tying the Adelphi single-game record of five goals set by Kelly Gilroy in 1993.
Adelphi returns to action this Saturday, October 23, hosting West Chester University in non-conference action. The game, originally slated for a 2 pm kick-off, has been pushed back to 3 pm.
