Box Score
Garden City, N.Y. -
The Adelphi men's soccer team out shot Oneonta State 9-7 but could not slip the game winner past Red Dragon keeper Timothy Melia (Great River, N.Y.) in a 2-2 double overtime tie. The tie give the Panthers a 3-6-1 overall record and a mark of 0-1-1 in the Atlantic Soccer Conference, Oneonta is 4-8-1 overall and 0-1-1 in the conference.
Just 12 minutes into the game Oneonta struck. Ricky Quest (Brooklyn, N.Y.) slipped past Adelphi's defense and struck a shot from the left side of the box that beat Adelphi goalie Rich Skoblicki (Patchogue, N.Y.) to give the Red Dragons a 1-0 edge.
Adelphi answered back just before the half when Rob Philippou (Manhasset, N.Y.) struck an indirect kick that deflected off of an Oneonta defender and past Melia, knotting the contest at one heading into halftime.
In the 70th minute Quest struck again, beating Adelphi's defense for the second time. Skoblicki was able to get a piece of Quest's shot but not enough to keep it out of the back of the Panther net.
Less then a minute later Suleyman Pehlivan (Istanbul, Turkey) slipped the ball past Melia and into the net, just seconds after coming in as a substitute to tie the game at two with 19 minutes left in regulation.
That would be that last goal as Adelphi and Oneonta played 39 minutes of scoreless soccer. Skoblicki made five saves, while Melia collected seven.
Adelphi returns to action on October 23rd when they face conference opponent Hartwick at noon on Stiles Field.
