Sophomore Carlyshia Hurdle (Brentwood, N.Y.) led a balanced Panther attack scoring 13 points while pulling down a career-best 16 boards as the Adelphi University women's basketball team defeated Concordia College, 69-57, on Thursday night at Woodruff Hall.  The Panthers improve to 9-5 overall and 8-3 in the NYCAC, while the Lady Clippers fall to 6-9 on the season and 6-6 in the NYCAC.
A total of five players scored in double figures for the Panthers.  Senior Jamie Douglas (Hopatcong, N.J.) had 13 points and eight boards.  Senior Kerri Kirschbaum (Leonardo, N.J.) hit 3-for-3 from beyond the arc for 12 points along with a career-best seven assists. Juniors Meranne Whitney (Nashua, NH) and Melanie Mangone (Middle Village, N.Y.) added 11 and 10 points, respectively.
Both teams traded baskets in the opening minutes, with the score tying six times in the first half. Tied at 16-16 with 10:18 on the clock, Douglas rattled off six of nine first half points to open a 21-16 lead. The Lady Clippers rallied back on a 7-1 run to even the score, 23-23, at 5:16.  The game remained close through the final minutes however the Panthers closed the half on a 5-0 run to lead, 33-29.
Adelphi opened a 12 point lead, 49-37, through the first nine minutes of the second half. Then the Panther offensive stalled, as they remained scoreless for the next 2:30 minutes. Concordia took advantage, closing to within five on back-to-back baskets by sophomore Pam Karagiorgious (Norwalk, Conn.) with 7:05 left to play.  The Panthers, who were 6-of-8 (75 percent) from three-point range in the second half, outscored the Lady Clippers 15-8 to take the win, 69-57.
Karagiorgios led Concordia with a game-high 16 points.  Sophomore Katie Reynolds (Monroe, Conn.) had 13 points.
Adelphi returns to action this Saturday, traveling to Southampton College for the teams' first meeting of the season.  Tip-off is at 1:30 p.m.
