Adelphi Edges Queens, 51-48

Garden City, N.Y. - Adelphi continued its winning ways by holding Queens to just 28 percent shooting for the game. The Panthers extended their win streak to three games with a 51-48 victory over Queens. Adelphi improved to 8-5 overall and 6-4 in the NYCAC, while Queens falls to 6-8 overall and 5-6 in conference play.

Adelphi held Queens to just 17 points on 20 percent shooting in the first half. The game was back and forth with the lead changing hands four times before Adelphi claimed the first half lead for good on a jumper by Will Smith (Manasquan, N.J.). The Panthers closed the half with a 15-5 run to enter the locker room with a 28-17 edge.

Adelphi jumped out to a 14 point lead on a short jumper by Eric Martin (Laurelton, N.Y.). But Queens took 17 free throws in the second half to slip back into the game and take the lead 6:16 left in the second half.

Jamaal Wagner (Jamaica, N.Y.) answered right back for the Panthers, hitting a three-pointer to retake the lead 41-39. Queens hung around and put a scare into Adelphi when they closed to 45-43, but the Knights could not get any closer.

Dwayne Thompson (Cambria Heights, N.Y.) led Adelphi with 12 points, Martin chipped in seven points and a game-high eight rebounds. Queens was led by John Sikiric (Maspeth, N.Y.) who scored a game-high 16 points and grabbed five rebounds. Shaun Bertin also scored nine points for the Knights.

The Panthers return to action Thursday, January 22nd when they play host to conference opponent Concordia College at 7:30 pm in Woodruff Hall.
