Freshman Kimani Blaize (Brooklyn, N.Y.) went 4-for-4 from three-point land for a career high 16 points as the Adelphi men's basketball team topped Concordia, 80-71, Saturday afternoon. The Panthers improve to 7-5 on the season and 5-4 in the NYCAC. The Clippers drop to 1-12 overall and 1-9 in the NYCAC.
In a game that saw every Panther on the bench score, a total of four players recorded double figures. Senior Thomas McCormack (Breezy Point, N.Y.) collected 15 points, seven rebounds and six assists. Sophomores Eric Martin (Laurelton, N.Y.) and William Smith (Manasquan, N.J.) each added 13 points. Martin also pulled down a game-high 11 rebounds for his first career double-double.
Adelphi opened an early lead to start the contest, with Concordia tying the game at 12-12. Each time the Panthers began to pull away, the Clippers rallied back. The game would tie a total of seven times in the first half, including a half-time score of 31-31.
The second half started in much the same fashion, as they both teams traded baskets, with the game tying three more times within the first few minutes. The Panthers pulled ahead, outscoring the Clippers, 21-8, to lead 57-44 at 10:11. Concordia managed to close to within six in the final minute of play, but the Panthers held on for the win, 80-71.
On the game, Adelphi shot a season-high 51 percent (25-of-49) from the field, compared to 43.1 for Concordia. The Panther committed 11 turnovers on seven Clipper steals, but held a 36-29 advantage on rebounds.
The Clippers were led by Leon Martinez with 17 points. Famous Brown added 13 points.
Next up, Adelphi will face Queens College on Tuesday, January 20, at 7:30 p.m. This is the second meeting between the teams, as the Panthers look to avenge an earlier 71-69 loss to the Knights on January 8.
