Adelphi falls to Seton Hall by a score of 6-0. With the win Seton Hall improves to 2-1-1 while Adelphi falls to 1-1-1 on the season. The Pirates topped the Panthers in a physical battle that saw a total of 45 fouls and six cautions given. Adelphi received three of the six yellow cards given and 24 of the 45 fouls.
The match was played very even through the first 15 minutes, but in the 16th minute Seton Hall broke through when Matt Salotti (Fairfield, NJ) put a header past freshman goal keeper Calogero Carollo (Brooklyn, N.Y.). Seton Hall increases their lead to 2 less then eight minutes later on another header, this time from Sacha Klijestan (Huntington Beach, CA). Seton Hall entered half time with a 4-0 lead over the Panthers.
Adelphi has some quality chances in the second half but either could not convert on them or Pirate Goalie Ian Joyce (Kinnelon, NJ) was there to make the save. Senior Marlon Clarke (Brooklyn, N.Y.) had two of the best Panther scoring opportunities of the game but Seton Hall's keeper was able to make the stop on both occasions. Carollo finished the game with a total of six saves, while Adelphi totaled eight shots on goal.
Adelphi returns to action this Saturday the 13th against the Orangemen of Syracuse University. The game will be played at 1 pm on Stiles Field.
