Softball Defeats AIC, UMass-Lowell In Day Two of NCAA Regionals

Syracuse, N.Y. - Sophomore Ashley Spreer came up big for Adelphi (35-16) in day two of the NCAA Regional Tournament as the Panthers defeated AIC, 3-1, and followed up with a 2-0 shutout of UMass-Lowell in the second game. Adelphi must now defeat C.W. Post for a chance to face Le Moyne in the championship game.

In their first game of the day against AIC, senior Cheri Pearce lifted a two-out, two-strike, two-run home run in the bottom of the seventh to move Adelphi past American International 3-1. Spreer belted a solo home run in the second for the Panthers' other run.

Adelphi gained a spot in Saturday's action with a 2-0 win over UMass Lowell in the final game of the day. Freshman Carla Buonviaggio pitched a one-hitter with one strikeout. UML's Amber Gagnon hustled out an infield single for the Riverhawks' only hit. Spreer doubled to right field to score the game's only runs in the sixth.

The Panthers will face C.W. Post on Saturday morning with the winner advancing to the championship game against Le Moyne at 1:30 p.m.
