Syracuse, N.Y. -
Senior pitcher Katie Omilak along with a stellar Panther defense, allowed just two hits and no runs as the No. 4 seed Adelphi softball team shutout No. 5 Queens College, 6-0, in the first game of the NCAA Northeast Regionals. The Panthers will face No. 1 seed and host Le Moyne at 5:30 p.m.
Adelphi (33-15) picked up a quick 1-0 lead in the first inning when senior Cheri Pearce hit a double down the right field, bringing home Omilak who had advanced to second on her own double.
Senior Kristine McCarthy picked up her sixth homerun of the season in the third inning and sophomore Ashley Spreer would score on a Queens error as the Panthers widened its margin to 3-0.
Sophomore Ivy Klein opened the top of the fourth with a single homerun. On the next play Omilak walked, then advanced to second and third as senior Lisa Ferranti and Pearce each grounded out. As McCarthy reached on a fielding error, Omilak scored unearned as the Panthers led 5-0.
In the fifth inning, with one out, Queens connected on one of only two hits in the game, advancing to first. Adelphi followed up with a spectacular double play from Omilak, to sophomore Tonia Trapani to Spreer, and dashed any hopes the Lady Knights had of scoring on the play. The final run for Adelphi came in the sixth inning as the Panthers held on for the win, 6-0.
Adelphi was led offensively by Omilak who was 3-2 with two doubles, and Pearce who was 2-4 with two RBI.

This marked the fourth meeting of the Panthers and the Lady Knights. In each of the three previous encounters, Queens was victorious including their last contest in the NYCAC Tournament, edging Adelphi 12-11.
