Softball Falls To New Haven, 2-0, In NYCAC Tournament

Old Westbury, N.Y. - The Adelphi softball team lost to the University of New Haven, 2-0, in the second day of the NYCAC Tournament on the campus of C.W. Post. The Panthers (32-15) are eliminated while the Chargers (26-20-1) advance to the final day of competition.

The Chargers got on board in the first inning on a single to left field bringing in one runner. Both teams remained scoreless through the bottom of the six inning, when UNH singled to right field advancing runners to second and third. A Panther error allowed a the Chargers to pick up their second run for the win. Adelphi got on base when senior Cheri Pearce hit a double in the bottom of the seventh inning, preventing UNH pithcer E. Colon from a no-hitter.

Jaime Pietrantoni took the loss for the Panthers, allowing nine hits, two runs, one earned, walking one and striking out eight.

Adelphi, ranked sixth in the last regional poll, will wait to see if they earn a bid for the NCAA Regional Tournament.
