Old Westbury, N.Y. -
The Adelphi University women's lacrosse suffered only its second loss of the season at the hands of the C.W. Post Pioneers, 16-10, Saturday afternoon at Bob Blitz Field.
The Panthers jumped out to an early 1-0 lead on a goal by junior Leigh Fennessey, but Post tied it less than 90 seconds later. Tara Lundy then sandwiched her first three goals between the first of sophomore Katherine Hock's five goals for Adelphi to make it 4-2.
Back-to-back goals boosted the Pioneers lead to 6-2, but the Panthers struck for a trio of goals within a two-minute span to slice their deficit to a single goal with 7:33 remaining before halftime. Lauren Cramer would collect the final score of the half for the Pioneers to give them a two-goal lead at the break.
Freshman Dawn Anselmin chopped the margin back down to one with a goal following intermission, but five unanswered goals, increased Post's lead to 12-6. The two teams then traded goals for the rest of the game.
Lundy finished the game with six goals for the Pioneers.
The Panthers finish the regular season 9-2 overall. The win for the Pioneers (11-1) virtually assures their third straight berth in next week's championships, with the official notification taking place on Sunday.
