Adephi Falls to C.W. Post, 4-1, in Final Day of NCAA Regionals

Syracuse, N.Y. - Sophomore Tonia Trapani's homerun in the second inning proved to be the only run for Adelphi, as C.W. Post held on for a 4-1 win in the final day of action at the NCAA Northeast Regionals.

Le Moyne College defeated C.W. Post in the final round to win its second straight Northeast Regional title. Senior catcher Emily Senko belted two home runs and Most Valuable Player Marnie Sundberg pitched her third consecutive shutout to lead the Dolphins (46-8) to a 3-0 win over C.W. Post, as they now head to Salem, Oregon for the national championship.

The Panthers finish third overall at the regional tournament, ending the season with a 34-17 record.

After a scoreless first inning, Trapani, who was named to the Northeast Region All-Tournament Team, blasted a single homerun to left field to put Adelphi on board, 1-0. The Pioneers tied the game in the fourth inning, then added two more runs in the fifth inning. Julianne Lovejoy pitched all seven innings, allowing just five hits as Post sealed its victory in the seventh inning, 4-1.

Adelphi had one run on five hits and three errors. C.W. Post had four runs on 10 hits and no errors.

This was the second NCAA Division II appearance for Adelphi. In their first bid in 2000, the Panthers also finished third. In addition to Trapani, sophomore Ashley Spreer and senior Katie Omilak were also named to the All-Tournament Team.
