Sophomore Katherine Hock led a balanced Panther notching a hat trick, along with two assists, in Adelphi's 13-6 victory over East Stroudsberg University, Thursday afternoon at Stiles Field. The No. 9 nationally ranked Panthers improve to 4-1 on the season. The Warriors fall to 1-3.
A total of seven different players scored for Panthers as they outshot the Warriors 27-16 in the game.
ESU got on board quickly on an unassisted goal by Michelle Cottiers, one of her two goals in the contest, in the first 40 seconds of play. Less than two minutes later, Leigh Fennessey tied the game for Adelphi on an assist from senior Catherine Perez. Junior Jennifer Garone picked up her two goals in the first half, as the Panthers finished on a 7-2 run to hold a five-point advantage at intermission.
Marie Ryan opened the second half with an unassisted goal to give Adelphi a 9-3 lead. The Warriors outscored the Panthers 2-1 over the next seven minutes to close the gap to 10-5. The teams traded shots over the next 10 minutes when freshman Dawn Anselmin scored the second of two goals to give Adelphi a 11-5 lead. Perez, who also handed out two assists in the game, nailed her second goal in the final two minutes of play as the Panthers captured the win.
Sophomore Josephine Coiro had nine stops for Adelphi. ESU's Kelly Wagner had seven saves.
With today's victory, the Panthers avenge an 11-8 loss to the Warriors back on April 4, 2002. Their all-time series record now stands at 1-1.
Adelphi is back in action next Thursday, April 10, hosting American International College at 4:00 p.m.
