The Adelphi Panthers Baseball team dropped their eight straight game in a 20-5 loss to Caldwell College (N.J.). The Panthers scored one run in the top of the first as Ricky Nicholson crossed the plate.
Junior Andrew Tinucci (Mepham, N.Y.) took to the mound in the bottom of the first as Caldwell came to bat. Caldwell batted around in the first as the Panthers committed four key errors that led to many unearned runs. Tinucci eventually tired, and in the same inning, was relieved by freshman Kenneth Gates (Massapequa, N.Y.). Gates came in and threw the next 6 1/3 innings before freshman Michael Aliperti came in to begin the bottom of the seventh. Freshman Doug Anderson also saw action on the mound as he entered in the bottom of the eighth.
Senior James Gowdy (Setauket, N.Y.) launched his first ever Adelphi homerun over the right field wall, hitting the scoreboard. Gowdy would go 2-4 on the day with a homerun and a double. Junior Casey Twibell (Carle Place, N.Y.) went 2-5, and freshman Ricky Nicholson (Massapequa, N.Y.) went 3-4 on the day.
Adelphi falls to 5-27 on the season.
The Panthers will postpone their Saturday double header against Queens to Tuesday due to severe rain in the forecast. The game will also be changed to Queens College Field due to a scheduling conflict. First pitch scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
