Adelphi Keeps On Plunging

April 21, 2003

Box Score

The Adelphi baseball team suffered a tough 25-5 loss to rival C.W Post on Monday afternoon. The Panthers fall to 5-26 overall and 1-14 in the NYCAC. The Pioneers improve to 11-15 overall and 7-5 in the NYCAC.

The Panthers jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the third against hurler Mike Vicaro who shut down the Panthers in their first affair on April 2nd. In the top half of the fourth Greg Annino led off with a walk, Kevin Ryan singled which set up former Adelphi Panther Mike Herbst (Longwood, N.Y.) for a two run home run. C.W Post would bat around twice in the inning before recording even one out. There was base hit after base hit, run after run, and the Pioneers exploded for 14 runs in the top of the fourth.

Mike Herbst would go on to go 4-6 on the day, and do something very rare against the Panthers as he hit for the cycle (single, double, triple, home run) against his former team, and collected 10 RBI's on the day. The Pioneers also emptied their bench as they used 16 players in the game.

On a bright note for Adelphi, Thomas Cali collected three hits on the day, and Matt DeWitt collected two with an RBI base hit. Chris Alvarez continued to swing the bat well, he also had an RBI on the day.

The Panthers return to action on Thursday, April 24, on the road against Caldwell College in New Jersey. First pitch is at 3:00 pm.
