Hock Leads No. 8 Adelphi Past Philadelphia, 16-5

Garden City, N.Y. - Sophomore Katherine Hock notched five of her career-high eight goals in the second half as the #8 Adelphi University women's lacrosse team topped Philadelphia University 16-5, Saturday afternoon at Stiles Field. The Panthers have won their last five, improving to 8-1 on the season. The Lady Rams fall to 5-5.

Philadelphia got on board early with a goal by Allison Stammen 6:18 into the first half. Hock rattled off back-to-back goals, with the second on an assist by senior Catherine Perez, to lead 2-1. Adelphi would never trail again, finishing the half on a 5-0 run to lead 7-1 at intermission.

The Panthers opened the second half with three unanswered goals before the Lady Rams picked up its second on a free position shot by Jenna Tursi, 6:26 into the second half. Hock answered with her sixth goal on an assist from junior Leigh Fennessey. Freshman Liz Patano followed on an assist by junior Jennifer Garone as the Panthers opened a 14-2 lead with 21:57 remaining. PhilaU rallied back three consecutive goals over the next two minutes to lessen the gap, 12-5. Junior Marie Ryan capped a 3-0 run with a goal on a free position at the buzzer for the win, 16-5.

For the game, Fennessey had two goals and two assists and Ryan had three goals.

Adelphi goalkeeper Josephine Coiro had 11 stops on 18 attempts. Philadelphia's Jill Martin had seven saves on 29 shots.

Hock's eight goals breaks her own single-game Adelphi record of seven, set April 18, 2002 against Montclair State. Her eight goals plus one assist for nine points, also ties the Adelphi single points record, set by Fennessey in 2001.

Adelphi will host Bentley College in its final home game of the season next Saturday, April 26, at 3:00 p.m.
