Adelphi defeated Caldwell College in non-conference action on Sunday, April 13. The Panthers swept the Cougars, 2-0, 5-4, and improve to 20-10 on the season.
Game One--Senior Katie Omilak pitched a four-hitter, allowing just four walks while strking out six. Sophomore Tonia Trapani and freshman Beth Fletcher led the Panthers offensively with a RBI each.
Adelphi had two runs on five hits and no errors. Caldwell had no runs on four hits and one error.
Game Two--Caldwell jumped out to an early lead in the first inning. Adelphi picked up two runs in the fourth as Amy Delmore scored on a Katie Omilak single. Cheri Pearce brought in Omilak on a single. The Cougars rattled off three runs in the fifth, 4-2. In the seventh inning, Kristine McCarthy doubled with two on base to tie the score, 4-4. In the eighth inning, Trapani singled then advanced to second on a SAC by Tara Rice. Delmore singled, sending Trapani to third as she scored the winning run on a SAC by Pearce.
Carla Buonviaggio pitched eight innings with 11 hits, four runs, four earned, five walks and two strikeouts.
Adelphi had five runs on 12 hits and no errors. Caldwell had four runs on 11 hits and one error.
The Panthers are back in action this Tuesday, April 15, hosting Queens College at 3:30 p.m.
