Men's Lacrosse Cruises Past St. Andrew's, 21-10

Chesapeake, MD - Freshman Wesley Green recorded four goals and six assists as seventh-ranked Adelphi University defeated St. Andrew's College, 21-10, Saturday afternoon at Chesapeake High School. The Panthers improve to 4-1 on the season. The Knights drop to 2-8.

The Panthers trailed 3-2 after the first period, but used a 5-1 run late in the second quarter to defeat the Knights.

St. Andrews claimed a 2-0 lead in the first period with goals from Jimmy Herberson and Keith Belward, but Adelphi would even the score by the 9:46 mark with a pair of goals from Jesse Sorensen and Green. A late tally gave the Knights a one-goal lead at the end of the quarter.

The two teams traded goals in the first minute of the second period, but St. Andrews would ease out to a 5-3 lead when Herberson found the net for the second time in the contest. The Panthers tied the game at 5-5 with back-to-back goals from Tyler Heavenor and Matt Schomburg and would take their first lead of the afternoon when Kim Delfs scored on a pass from Heavenor at the 4:03 mark. Adelphi would stretch the margin to 10-6 by halftime.

The Panthers added six goals in the third frame and five in the fourth. The Knights scored twice in each of the remaining periods.

Heavenor recorded four goals and three assists while Schomburg collected four goals and one assist. Delfs also had four goals. Sorensen scored three times and added one assist.

Adelphi goalie Mark Miller had 10 saves, improving to 4-0 on the season. Knight goalie Kevin Woods made 15 saves in the outing, and Sean Jaramillo had three.

The Panther are back in action next Wednesday, April 16, in their first home contest of the season, facing Molloy College at 3:00 p.m. at Stiles Field.
