In only the second shutout in the team's three year history, the #9 Adelphi women's lacrosse team set a new school record for goals in a game with a 22-0 win over American International College, Thursday afternoon at Stiles Field. The Panthers improve to 5-1 on the season, while the Yellow Jackets drop to 0-3.
Sophomore Katherine Hock and junior Jennifer Garone each collected five goals to lead a balanced Panther attack. Freshman Liz Patano notched four goals. Junior Karen Sulinski collected three goals and three assists.
Adelphi took charge in the opening minutes of the game and never looked back, holding a 14-0 advantage at the end of the first half. Freshman Liz Patano scored three of her career-high four goals in the second half as the Panthers outshot the Yellow Jackets 33-6 in the game. The final goal came from freshman defender Mary Cannata who notched her first collegiate goal on an assist from freshman Dawn Anselmin, one of five in the game, as Adelphi coasted to victory.
Sophomore goalie Josephine Coiro grabbed her second career shutout with five saves. AIC senior Priya Gomes had four saves in the first half, while sophomore Carmen Carter had three saves in the second half.
Adelphi returns to action this Sunday, April 13, traveling to Assumption College. The game location and time has been changed and will be played at Worchester State College at 10:00 a.m. The Panthers were also scheduled to face St. Anselm College on Saturday, April 12, but that game has been cancelled due to poor field conditions as a result of snow in the area.
