Men's Lacrosse Edges Bentley College, 9-8

Waltham, Mass. - Adelphi University's David Toy (Perth, Australia) scored his third goal of the day with 34 seconds left in the game as the #7 Panthers defeated Bentley College 9-8 in men's college lacrosse Saturday afternoon.

Bentley, playing their third straight top-ten opponent drops to 1-2 on the season, while the Panthers improve to 2-1 overall.

Adelphi jumped out to a lightning fast start as they put two behind Bentley goalie Brian Nash (Fairfield, Conn./Fairfield HS) in the first 42 seconds of the first quarter. Junior middy Kim Delfs (Wandi, Australia) scored the first of his two goals at :42 of the first, before Bentley's Ryan Bouchey (Troy, N.Y./La Salle Institute) scored at 4:30 to cut the lead in half. Toy tallied the first of his trio at 5:48 of the first. The Falcons clawed back to tie the game at three apiece on goals from junior co-captain George Fox (Waltham/Waltham HS) and Bouchey.

The teams each netted a pair of goals in the second period with Adelphi's Greg Cal Smith (Ohsweken, Ont.) collecting a goal and assist. For Bentley, junior George Gullage (Billerica/Billerica HS) scored the first of his two goals at 10:12, and junior Jordan Benjamin (Middlebury, Vt./Middlebury HS) scored his third goal in as many games to tie the game at five going into the half.

Bentley took the advantage in the third period with three goals to the Panthers two. Gullage scored the third goal of the period with help from Fox to put the home team up 8-6.

Toy took over for the Panthers in the fourth connecting on two of his four shots, including the game-winner with under a minute to play to give the visitors the win.

Mark Miller (Norwalk, Conn.) made 10 saves for Adelphi, while Nash made 14 for Bentley.

Adelphi will open its NYCAC season next Wednesday,April 2,as they travel to Dowling College. Game time is 3:30 p.m.
