Sophomore Melanie Mangone went 4-for-5 from beyond the arc on her way to a team-high 20 points to lead the Adelphi women's basketball team to a 68-55 conference win over Concordia College. The Panthers improve to 11-8 on the season and 10-6 in the NYCAC. The Lady Clippers drop to 5-15 overall and 5-12 in then conference.
Sophomore Jesse Dlabola collected 12 of her 14 points in the second half, while junior Jaime Douglas chipped in 13 points.
The Panthers jumped out an early lead, holding the Lady Clippers scoreless for the first five minutes of the contest. Adelphi led 12-0 when Concordia got on board with a three-pointer from Tiffany Daley, which led to a 17-6 run. Mangone hit a three with 8:02 remaining as the Panthers finished the half on a 9-6 run, 27-23.
The Lady Clippers realized their only lead of the contest at 11:14 in the second half, 38-37, after holding the Panthers to just 10 points in the first nine minutes. Mangone hit consecutive three-pointers to put Adelphi back on top. With less than two minutes remaining in the contest the Panthers had opened a 13 point lead which they held onto for the win, 68-55.
Both teams were marred by excessive turnovers, combining for 50 on the contest. A 60.9 percent shooting performance in the second half helped Adelphi to a 51 percent showing on the night. The Lady Clippers shot 39.6 percent in the contest.
Concordia was led by Monique Mighty with 21 points and seven rebounds.
Adelphi returns to action on Thursday, traveling to NYIT. Game time is slated for 5:00 p.m.
