Adelphi Women Defeat Mercy College, 87-41

Garden City, N.Y. - Sophomore Jesse Dlabola picked up 19 points along with an Adelphi single-game record 10 steals the Panthers cruised to a 87-41 victory over Mercy College on Thursday evening at Woodruff Hall. Adelphi improves to 17-9 on the season and 16-7 in the NYCAC. The Lady Flyers fall to 6-21 in their season-ender and 6-18 in the NYCAC.

Junior Jaime Douglas led a balanced attack, collecting her twelfth double-double of the season, pouring in a game-high 22 points while pulling down 10 rebounds. Freshman Carlyshia Hurdle had 14 points and sophomore Courtney Carpenter chipped in 10 points and seven rebounds.

Adelphi dominated both ends of the game from start to finish. The Panthers forced 17 Lady Flyers turnovers in the first half alone, converting for 18 points. At the half, Adelphi already had collected 13 team steals and held a comfortable 38-22 lead.

The Panther defense continued to smother Mercy in the second half, holding the Lady Flyers to a mere 19 points. Adelphi shot a sizzling 66.7 percent, collecting more points in the second half then Mercy had in the entire contest.

Adelphi shot 51.7 percent on the game and notched a whopping 24 team steals. The Panthers also held a slight 40-37 advantage in rebounds.

Dlabola shared the previous single-game record of nine steals, which she matched on two previous occasions, with Meghan Moran set in January of 1999. Her season total now stands at 125 and her average of 5.0 steals per game ranks her third in the nation.

Next up, Adelphi hosts New Haven on Saturday in the final home game of the regular season. Tip-off is slated for 5:30 p.m.
