Box Score
Garden City, N.Y. -
Sophomore forward Courtney Carpenter notched 14 points, while pulling down a career-best 16 rebounds to lead Adelphi University to a 76-52 conference win over Molloy College on Thursday night. The Panthers improve to 15-9 overall and 14-7 in the NYCAC. The Lady Lions drop to 6-17 on the season and 6-15 in the conference.
Spurred by sophomore Jesse Dlabola's nine steals, Adelphi forced 35 Molloy turnovers, converting to 31 points in the game. Dlabola, who just missed the double-double with 10 points on the night, tied her own single-game record of nine steals set last season. Needing just one steal to tie her own single-season record of 107 steals set in 2002, Dlabola had six steals in the first half. Her current season total stands at 115.
All but one Adelphi player scored in the contest, which had a total of four players in double-figures. Sophomore Meranne Whitney had 12 points, while junior Jaime Douglas added 11 points.
After a slow start, the Panthers opened up a 26-10 lead through the first 11 minutes of the half. The Lady Lions rallied back on a 14-2 run to close to within four points with 3:30 remaining. Dlabola and Douglas combined for seven of Adelphi's final points to hold a 37-27 advantage going into intermission.
A jumper by Molloy's Donna Lohrey closed the gap to eight points at 18:20 in the second half, but this would prove to be the closest the Lady Lions would get. A balanced Panther attack, including 33 points from the bench, helped Adelphi cruise to a 76-52 victory.
Rose Bruno led Molloy with 11 points. Lohrey had 10 points and five rebounds.
Tonight's contest will be aired on Telecare, cablevision channel 31, this Saturday at approximately 7:00 p.m.
