Dec. 9, 2003

Box Score

Garden City, N.Y. - New Haven out scored Adelphi 40-18 in the second half in route to a 67-48 NYCAC win. With the loss Adelphi drops to 4-2 overall and 2-1 in the NYCAC, while New Haven improves to 3-2 overall and evens their record at 2-2 in conference play.

New Haven jumped out to several leads in the first half, the largest was at the 13:01 mark when the Chargers took a six point lead. But every time New Haven took the lead, the Panthers battled back to slide ahead by a point or two. Will Smith (Manasquan, N.J.) dropped in two free throws with eight seconds left on the clock to give Adelphi a three point lead, 30-27, going in the half.

The second half opened with New Haven and Adelphi trading baskets. But with 15:58 left in the game, Derek Glasper (New Britian, CT) hit a three-pointer to give New Haven a three point lead. The Chargers never looked back and Adelphi never looked back again.

New Haven converted 16 of 19 attempts from the line in the second half, compared to just five made free throws on eight attempts for the Panthers. The free throw shooting difference and the Panthers 20 percent shooting were too much to overcome as Adelphi scored their last points with 4:19 left in the half and fell 67-48 to New Haven.

The Chargers were led by John Sullivan (Bridgeport, CT) who scored 12 points to go along with 12 boards, Glasper also chipped in 17 points and seven rebounds. Thomas McCormack (Breezy Point, N.Y.) paced the Panthers with 15 points and four assists, Dwayne Thompson (Cambria Heights, N.Y.) also chipped in 11 points and six rebounds.

The Panthers return to action Saturday, December 13th when they travel to Philadelphia University for a 4 pm NYCAC showdown.
