Adelphi closed out the regular season with a 1-0 victory over C.W. Post and then celebrated their third consecutive NYCAC championship. The Panthers improve to 16-1-1 overall and finish 11-0 in NYCAC play, while C.W. Post drops to 10-7-2 overall and 6-2-2 in the NYCAC. The win extended Adelphi's win streak to 16 games and the Panthers have not been scored upon in 13 games.
Adelphi opened the scoring in the ninth minute when Lena Dunning pushed the ball down the left flank and sent a cross into the Pioneer penalty area. The ball skipped through the box where Luciana Pace was able to put a foot on it and send it into the back of the C.W. Post net.
The rest of the first half was played very even with Adelphi and C.W. Post exchanging scoring opportunities but neither able to capitalize. The Pioneers played with a lot of determination in the second half and seemed to swing momentum to their cause. In the 12th minute of the second half C.W. Post took sent a corner kick toward the Panther net; it looked to be a goal. But freshman Lauren Lopez headed the ball off the line, saving a goal.
Adelphi played strong defense the last ten minutes of the game and came away with a hard fought 1-0 win. Andrea Fasano picked up her 13th shut out of the season and collected one save, Nicole Massari recorded five saves in the loss.
The Panthers are currently ranked #4 in the nation by the NSCAA and are expecting to receive an NCAA Tournament bid on Monday, November 10th.
