The Adelphi men's basketball team picked up its first win of the season with a 51-40 victory over host Dominican College Friday night at the Dominican College Tournament. The Panthers improve to 1-1, while the Chargers drops to 0-3.
Senior Thomas McCormack was the only player in double figures, collecting 11 points, going 3-for-3 from three-point range. Junior Taylor Murphy grabbed a game-high 13 rebounds and eight points. Senior Dwayne Thompson added eight points off the bench, including 4-4 from the line.
Both teams shot poorly in the first half, combining for just 10 field goals made. At intermission, AU held a one-point advantage, 19-18.
Adelphi improved its shooting in the second half, hitting 11 of 28 from the field. The Panthers outscored the Chargers 32-22 in the half to hold on for the win, 51-40. In the contest, Adelphi dominated the boards, outrebounding Dominican 48-29.
DC was led by Chucky Frierson with 12 points. Andrew Marsh had seven points and five assists.
The Panthers return to action tonight as they face Caldwell College in day two of the Dominican College Tournament.
