Four different players scored goals as the sixth ranked Panthers rolled past Mercy College 6-0 yesterday. With the win Adelphi extends its win streak to six games and improves to 6-1-1 overall and 2-0 in NYCAC play. Mercy fell to 1-6-1 overall and 0-4 in NYCAC play with the loss.
The Panthers came out strong scoring two goals in the first seven minutes of play. Josephine Coiro struck first when she collected a failed Mercy clear and beat the keeper three minutes into play. Then two and a half minutes later Luciana Pace received a pass from Lena Dunning and chipped a well placed shot over Mercy's goalie.
Pace scored her second goal from distance after Dominique Ricardo and Coiro worked together to get her the ball. Pace sent a bouncing shot towards the goal that the keeper could not get to. Coiro then scored her second goal of afternoon when Pace received the ball on the wing from Dunning. Pace then sent the ball into the box where Coiro headed it into the Mercy goal for her second goal of the game in the 22nd minute of play.
Catherine Wyndham and Lauren Lopez both collected their first goals of the season to round out the scoring for Adelphi. Lopez passed the ball to Wyndham in the 29th minute and Wyndham chipped it over Mercy's goalie for Adelphi's fifth goal. Then in the 43rd minute Jaime Parrella sent a ball to Lopez who collected it and was one-on-one with the keeper. Lopez placed a shot past the Mercy goalie giving the Panthers a 6-0 lead.
Andrea Fasano and Sara Giaimo combined for the shut out, Fasano made two saves. Linda Arriaga and Tori Kargbo split time in net for Mercy, Arriaga made three saves, and Kargbo stopped 11 shots.
Adelphi returns to action this Saturday, October 4th when they host Concordia College at 2 pm.
