Box Score
Garden City, N.Y. -
Adelphi extended its win streak to eleven games, and Andrea Fasano extended her shutout streak to eight as the Panthers out lasted St. Thomas Aquinas 4-0. With the win Adelphi improves to 11-1-1 overall and 7-0 in NYCAC play, St. Thomas Aquinas drops to 4-8-1 overall and 2-6 in the NYCAC.
Adelphi opened the scoring just 6:54 into play when Marissa Cotilletta beat Spartan goal keeper Erin Mayo to give the Panthers a 1-0 lead. But St. Thomas Aquinas kept the game close, playing tough in the midfield and not allowing the Panthers to capitalize on their attacks. Mayo also made some brilliant saves to keep the Spartans alive.
The second half looked to be more of the same until the Panthers scored three goals in a ten minute span to put the game out of reach. Luciana Pace opened the flood gates when she collected a header from her sister Josefa and beat Mayo. Then Monica Miller struck a blast from twenty yards out that caught Mayo by surprise. Miller's goal put the Panthers ahead 3-0.
Cotilletta opened the scoring in the 6th minute and closed it sixty minutes later in the 66th when she collected a ball from Lena Dunning and slid the ball past Mayo for the fourth and final goal of the game. Mayo collected seven saves; Fasano came away with one, the Panthers out shot St. Thomas Aquinas 20-2.
Today's contest will be televised tomorrow, October 19th at 10 pm on Cablevision channel 29 (TeleCare). Adelphi returns to action Wednesday, October 22nd when they travel to NYIT for a 3:30 pm NYCAC match-up
