Box Score
Garden City, N.Y. -
Adelphi broke the game open in the second half, scoring two goals in a span of 12 minutes and topped visiting St. Francis 3-1. With the win the Panthers improve to 8-4-2 overall, while St. Francis drops to 1-11-1 on the season. Senior Tom Cunningham collected six saves in the win and Paul Varani recorded two saves on the day.
Adelphi opened the scoring just four minutes in to play when Padraig Drew collected a ball from Tal Sheinfeld and beat Varani to give the Panthers an early 1-0 lead. St. Francis seemed to take control of the game after that, the Terrier defense stifled any counter attacks made by Adelphi. But St. Francis could not put the ball past Cunningham.
The Terriers opened the second half the same way Adelphi opened the first, with a goal. Just two and a half minutes in Ricardo Ordain slipped the ball past Cunningham to tie the game at one apiece. Calver Palmer assisted on the goal. But Adelphi quickly answered, Sheinfeld took the ball from a Terrier defender in the box and fired a ball that beat Varani to put the Panthers up 2-1.
In the 61st minute freshman Ron Forman scored the Panthers third goal on an assist from Drew to give the Panthers a two goal cushion. St. Francis tried to claw back into the game but Adelphi's defense held strong and the Panthers came away with the 3-1 win.
Today's contest will be televised tomorrow October 19th at 8 pm on Cablevision channel 29 (TeleCare). Adelphi returns to action Friday October 24th when they play host to ASC rival Florida International University at 4 pm.
