Men's Basketball Loses At Philadelphia, 71-56

Philadelphia, Penn. - The Adelphi University men's basketball team suffered its third loss in as many games, dropping a 71-56 decision at Philadelphia University, Saturday afternoon. The Panthers drop to 3-5 overall and 2-3 in the NYCAC while the Rams improve to 5-4 overall and 4-2 in the NYCAC.

Senior forward Wayne Nelson led the Panthers with 21 points and 12 rebounds. Senior guard Tony Kellman added 16 points.

Adelphi shot just 29.6 percent, just 8-for-27 from the field, in the first half to trail, 24-36. In a physical contest that saw a total of 53 personal fouls, the Panthers found themselves in serious foul trouble with 17 fouls at the end of the first half.

The Panthers came out strong with an 8-2 run to open the second half to close to within four points, 38-34. This would prove to be the closest Adelphi would get as Philadelphia outscored the Panthers in the last 12 minutes of play.

Brian Tomko's 17 points led a balanced Rams attack that saw five players score in double digits. Graham Edwards had 11 points and a game-high 14 rebounds.

Adelphi returns to action on Wednesday, January 8th, hosting Queens College at 7:30 p.m.
