Junior forward Jaime Douglas poured in 17 of her career-high 25 points in the second half to lead the Adelphi women's basketball team to a 81-50 victory over C.W. Post, Tuesday night at Woodruff Hall. The Panthers improve to 10-7 overall and 9-5 in the NYCAC. The Lady Pioneers drop to 6-10 overall, 6-9 in the NYCAC.
Douglas, who picked up her eighth double-double this season with 11 rebounds, led a balanced Panther attack which saw four players score in double figures. Sophomore guard Melanie Mangone had 17 points and four steals. Sophomore guard Jesse Dlabola collected 16 points, eight assists and five steals. Senior guard Brianne MacArthur notched a career-best 10 points, going 4-for-5 from the field.
Looking to avenge an early season, 66-62, overtime loss at Post, Adelphi jumped out to an early lead, one which they would never relinquish. With 5:28 remaining in the first half, the Panthers were up by 16 points, 29-13, capped by a field goal from MacArthur. At intermission, Adelphi led, 38-23.
The Lady Pioneers, marred by poor shooting in the second half, connected on just 16 of 32 attempts for 23.1 percent from the field. The Panthers shot 50 percent from the field in the second half, realizing their largest lead of the game, 30 points, with 3:15 remaining in the contest. Adelphi's defense edged Post, 44-41, in rebounds, while forcing 33 turnovers.
C.W. Post was led by junior forward Keona Dessau with 16 points and eight rebounds. Sophomore guard Thalia Jackson added 11 points and nine rebounds.
Adelphi is back in action this Saturday, traveling to Dowling College for a 1:00 p.m. contest.
