The Adelphi women's basketball team saw its three-game win streak come to an end with a 63-56 overtime loss to New Haven on Tuesday evening. The Panthers drop to 8-7 overall and 7-5 in the NYCAC while the Chargers improve to 9-5, 8-3 in the NYCAC.
Sophomore Jesse Dlabola led the Panthers with a game-high 17 points to go along with seven rebounds, three assists and four steals. Junior Jaime Douglas her fifth double-double of the season with 15 points and a game-high 14 rebounds.
Adelphi trailed by five, 19-24, at the end of the first half after connecting on a dismal 7 of 30 from the field for just 23.3 percent. The Panthers opened the second half on a 10-4 run, capped by a three-pointer by Dlabola to tie the game, 28-28, at 16:35. Douglas gave AU its first lead of the contest, 35-34, on a layup with 9:12 remaining. The Chargers rallied back, scoring eight unanswered points. Adelphi continued to chip away at the UNH lead and back-to-back three-pointers by juniorKerri Kirschbaum and sophomore Melanie Mangone once again tied the game, 48-48, with just under three minutes left in regulation. A jumper by Mangone pushed the Panthers ahead, 50-48, with two minutes to go, but the Chargers were able to tie the game on two foul shots.
In overtime, the Chargers surged ahead, outscoring the Panthers 13-6 to hold on for the win, 63-56.
On the contest, Adelphi shot 30.9 percent from the field, compared with 36.1 percent by UNH. The Chargers held a slight advantage in rebounds, 50-47.
The Panthers finish their four-game road trip at Bridgeport on Thursday, January 24. Tip-off is at 6:00 p.m.
