The Adelphi women's basketball team notched its third straight win and second on the road as it topped Mercy College, 71-46, Saturday afternoon at Westchester Community College. The Panthers improve to 8-6 overall and 7-4 in the NYCAC.
Junior Jaime Douglas picked up the double-double, with 16 points and 10 rebounds to lead Adelphi. Freshman Carlyshia Hurdle pulled down a team-high 11 boards along with nine points, while sophomore Jesse Dlabola chipped in 13 points, four assists and four steals.
The Panthers led by just five points, 35-30, at the end of the first half, but held the Lady Flyers to just 17 points total in the second half. Adelphi outscored Mercy, 36-17 in the last 20 minutes, including 75 percent from the free throw line.
Prior to the start of their four-game road stand, the Panthers were just 1-4 on the road. Including wins at Molloy and Mercy, Adelphi has improved its record to 3-4 away from Woodruff Hall.
This record will be tested, as the Panthers gear up for two tough conference games next week, first traveling to New Haven on Tuesday and returning to Connecticut on Thursday to battle Bridgeport University. Game times are 5:30 p.m. and 6:00 p.m., respectively.
