Men's Basketball Rolls Past STAC, 66-42

Jan. 11, 2003

Sparkill, N.Y. - Seniors Wayne Nelson and Tony Kellman combined for 39 of the Adelphi's 66 points to lead the Panthers to a 66-42 victory over St. Thomas Aquinas, Saturday afternoon. Adelphi posts its second win in as many games to improve to 5-5 on the season and 5-3 in the NYCAC.

Nelson led the Panthers with 20 points, including three for five from three-point range, while pulling down a team-high nine boards. Kellman also contributed 3-of-6 from beyond the arc, to add 19 points. Freshman Eric Martin also scored in double figures for a career-best 11 points.

The Panthers shot a sizzling 55 percent, 11 of 20 from the field, in the first half, yet allowed the Spartans to stay in the contest due to early foul trouble. Marred by poor shooting, the Spartans hit just 5 of 21 attempts yet trailed by only three at the half, 29-26, after connecting on 15 of 19 from the free throw line.

Adelphi pulled away in the second half, outscoring STAC 37-16. The Panthers shot 49 percent on the game to the Spartans 25 percent, and held a 36-23 advantage on the boards.

The Spartans were led by Daryl Boykins with 18 points.

Adelphi looks to extend its win streak to three, hosting conference foe Southampton College on Tuesday night at Woodruff Hall. Tip-off is at 5:30 p.m.
