Junior Lena Dunning scored two goals to lead the No. 11 Adelphi University Women's soccer team to a 4-1 victory of East Stroudsburg, Sunday afternoon at Stiles Field. The Panthers pick up their third consecutive win and move to 3-0 on the season. The Warriors fall to 0-4.
Adelphi extends its overall win streak to 14, having not lost a game since September 22, 2001 when East Stroudsburg defeated the Panthers 3-2.
Adelphi jumped out to an early lead as Dunning scored unassisted at 4:10 minutes. Sophomore Josephine Coiro picked up the second Adelphi point in the 12th minute, outracing two Warrior defenders to beat ESU goalkeeper Linsey Vandergrift on goal. Dunning gave the Panthers a 3-0 lead with less than a minute remaining in the first half on an assist from Coiro.
ESU's Kate Melcer put the Warriors on the board at 63:10 in the second half on a tap from four yards out. Junior Luciana Pace notched the game-winner at 72:15 on a chip from Coiro to junior Jennifer Garone.
Junior Andrea Fasano collected three saves in goal for the Panthers. Vandergrift had five saves.
Adelphi returns to action on Wednesday, September 11, hosting conference foe Molloy College at 4:00 p.m. The Panthers will observe a moment of silence prior to the start of the game, in honor of the one-year anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks.
